This is a tough one but my top reason has to be the sheer variety of the job.

I can't think of any other profession where it’s just as important to know who's who at 'The Brits' as it is to have a grasp of international business.

On a day-to-day basis, I love getting to grips with a new industry or sector and it sometimes feels like I have ten different jobs (in a good way!).

Happy Birthday Suzy!

I've just hit 12 years of PR, and I never get bored.

The thing I love the most is that my day is never the same. Every client, product, service or journalist request is different. It's fun, fast and always exciting. I've never wished a day to end, ever.

The feeling you get when you acheive a hit in the media is pretty cool. I remember the first time I got a client on with Trevor McDonald on News at Ten - that was in 2001. It felt brilliant. I still get that feeling now. It's even better when I see that same reaction in account executives. It makes me smile.

Hi Suzy,

I stumbled upon your blog while I was researching for my dissertation (MSc International Applied Communication).
It's quite funny as your article resembles exactly what I fear. My study focus is PR and I know that I need experience, but I also know that I have quite some knowledge to share ;)... Hence, I understand the girl that called you and might have felt/reacted the same way. During our studies where constantly hear that we get to be managers, that postgraduate studies will 'shorten the way up'. Especially during the crisis, many teachers (and professionals) advised me to continue my studies and start at a higher level.. Since this issue accompanied me throughout my postgraduate studies, I will write about the 'value of a pr degree' from managerial point of view. I really hope that I will not find out that I wasted my time and money... ;)

As one of the Kirstys in your pile, I found this entry interesting... especially since I consider it to be a relatively uncommon first-name. Perhaps our parents unconsciously aspired for us to become big names in PR?
